Smear campaign doesn't stop Silver winning Division 3
KERRY Silver rose above a smear campaign to win Division 3 in what was the most bitterly fought campaign of the election.
Ms Silver played a straight bat, but behind the scenes there were individuals looking to smear both her and opponent Jim Dodrill.
Ms Silver was far enough ahead of Mr Dodrill in the count, and with preferences likely to flow to her from Danny Donohue, to claim victory in the seat vacated by the retired Victor Attwood.
Number cruncher, Blair MP Shayne Neumann, said Ms Silver would stay ahead of Mr Dodrill with preferences from the lower placed candidates to exhaust.
Ms Silver was delighted to claim victory on Saturday night.
"I've worked in the local community for 13 years but I have only been campaigning for six weeks up against a couple of candidates who have been campaigning for four years which was pretty daunting," she said.
"I'm really pleased the community has seen that I will be the very best councillor for Division 3.
"There were a number of smear campaigns. I've been working in politics for nearly 20 years and it's the worst I've seen. People know me and have seen through that. I'm not here to do things just for myself I'm here for the community.
"I'll make sure residents of Division 3 know who their local councillor is from Riverview to Ripley and every suburb in between."
