Heavy rain cancels race meet

IPSWICH Turf Club (ITC) was forced to abandon its second race meeting in as many weeks after heavy rain on Friday morning.

ITC general manager Brett Kitching said the meeting looked set to go ahead after a Racing Queensland steward inspected the Bundamba track about 6am.

But he said a heavy band of rain swept across the area about 9am, dumping about 12mm on the racecourse and leaving surface water on the track.

After last Friday's New Year's Eve meeting was called off, the turf club will have their fingers crossed the rain goes away before its back-to-back meetings next Friday and Saturday.
