Head-on crash claims the life of young motorcyclist

A BROOKWATER motorcyclist has been killed only days before his 21st birthday in a head-on collision in Carole Park.

The 20-year-old man, who would have celebrated his birthday this week, was riding a motorcycle in Carole Park on Saturday night.

On Cobalt St he collided head on with a Hyundai Elantra and died at the scene with police believing it was caused when he drifted into the wrong lane when cornering.

The driver of the car, a 31-year-old Calamvale woman, was not injured in the accident. Police do not currently believe speed was a factor in the crash.

Senior Sergeant Rob Goodger said police believed the driver had turned the corner and accidentally driven into the wrong lane.

"He was a young driver and it looks like he's taken the corner and drifted into the wrong lane," he said.

"He may have taken it a bit fast, but wasn't necessarily speeding or anything.

"Unfortunately he's come around when the car was coming around and they've collided."

Sgt Goodger said the driver of the Hyundai had been breath-tested with a negative reading returning after the crash.

The crash occurred in an industrial area of Carole Park with businesses lining the street where the accident took place. However, residents of surrounding areas took to social media where they reported sirens from the response last night. Other people used Facebook to mourn the loss of the young man and send their condolences.

The Forensic Crash Unit is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Anyone with information regarding the crash which could assist police with their investigations into this matter should contact Crime Stoppers anonymously via 1800 333 000 or crimestoppers.com.au 24hrs a day.
