Head inland for a dam good time this weekend
THE wind is up and the fishing options are limited.
With most of the bay off limits, it might pay to look inland for fishing options.
Dams in the south east corner are a great option.
Most have bays or areas where you can get out of the wind.
Moogerah and Somerset dams are fishing well.
Moogerah Dam has started to show signs of the bass schooling up along the old creek bed near the timber and in the main basin near the dam wall.
These fish are responding well to a range of baits and lures.
If you want to use baits, freshwater worms or live shrimp can't be beaten when lightly weighted.
If you want to try lures, sinking vibration lures like the Jackall Mask 70 or tn60 are great to start with.
Other deep divers, soft plastics or spinner baits will work.
Somerset Dam is a little different and the bass are more spread out.
Searching the dam with your sounder is a must.
But you can catch the bass using heavy spinner baits and extra heavy mask lures to cover large amounts of water while looking for the bass.
A boat and sounder are also a key for success at Somerset Dam.
If you are stuck to bank fishing or have kids that want to go for a fish, Lake Wyaralong is having its annual carp and tilapia eradication event tomorrow.
It is a great day out with the family.
Removal of carp and tilapia from the lake is a must as their presence hinder native fish stocks.
One of the best ways to catch carp and tilapia is by using freshwater worms or small amounts of bread under a float.
Focus on the shallow bays and around weed as both fish prefer these habitats.
Sign up starts from 5.30am but you don't need to be that early.
There are also plenty of prizes to give away.
