Hayne set to join historic 300 club

SHAYNE Hayne will become just the fourth referee to officiate 300 first-grade games when he controls tonight's qualifying final between the Rabbitohs and Storm at ANZ Stadium.

Hayne will join Bill Harrigan (393), Col Pearce (343) and Steve Clark (314) in the '300 club'.

Hayne has officiated in two NRL grand finals, 12 Origins, six Tests, a World Cup, City-Country (2007, 2009) and the All Stars game (2011).

Referees' boss Daniel Anderson said Hayne "continues to be a leader amongst our squad and a role model for aspiring referees".

Hayne was International Referee of the Year in 2009.
