Hans fires up barbecue for Hospice
ONE of Hospice's largest fundraising activities, the popular Dutch-themed Hans Fundraising BBQ, has raised at least $20,000.
Hans and his wife Ida Zwynenberg organised yesterday's huge family fun day fundraiser barbecue as they have done for the past 12 years with all proceeds going to the community-owned Ipswich Hospice Care on Chermside Rd, Eastern Heights.
“Hans and I have both had family and friends pass away from terminal illnesses, and we know what a difficult time it can be. We have always been impressed with the way Hospice cares for its patients and their families and we enjoy the opportunity to help raise funds for this worthy cause” Mrs Zwynenberg said.
Mr and Mrs Zwynenberg and their team of volunteers work for many months preparing for the fundraiser which involves many displays, an auction, entertainment and a variety of Dutch delicacies.
Ipswich Hospice director Ros Holloway said her team was very grateful to the Zwynenberg's for raising much-needed funds.
“Ipswich Hospice Care does receive some government funding, however, relies heavily on the generosity of the local community in supporting its fundraising events, donations and helping with volunteering in the various areas of Hospice. Hospice is very grateful to Han and Ida each year for their fantastic fundraising efforts,” Ms Holloway said.
