Hall of fame for top-notch cowboy Ben Hall

HORSES keen for an annual trip to the Warwick Rodeo have to first cut it as part of the contract mustering team of Muttaburra campdrafter Ben Hall.

On Saturday, Hall won his fifth major draft in Warwick when he won the Supafloats Canning Downs Campdraft on six-year-old mare Eltorrio.

Surprisingly, it was the first Canning Downs Campdraft win for Hall who has won three Warwick Gold Cups and one Champion of Champions.

"The Canning Downs has been evading me a bit. I have been second and third a few times," he said.

The mare is by Playrio, a stallion he competed on in finals action during the week.

He and wife Jaye bred the mare and he has only been competing on her for two years.

"She is up with the best of the horses I have," Hall said.

Last week, he competed on six horses in Warwick and qualified three for the final.

Hall is almost as happy winning the Canning Downs as the Warwick Gold Cup as the same combinations compete in each draft.

While campdrafting is a hobby which can win him some prize money, his main work is as a contracter musterer.

"We have a team of 10 riders and usually muster mobs of 1500 cattle," he said.

"Eltorrio is part of our contract mustering team. She has come up through the ranks."

He has now retired from saddle bronc riding after winning at the Warwick Rodeo and finished first, second, third and fourth in national finals in the APRA.
