Goodna's loyalty keeps growing

THE Goodna Eagles sealed their Ipswich Junior Rugby League club championship with four grand final wins on Saturday.

The Eagles won under 11b, under 12b, under 13 major and Open B titles at the Briggs Road Sporting Complex.

"It's very exciting," Goodna junior club president Trish Hollands said.

Hollands has overseen a club championship win before, in her previous stint as president.

This one carried extra significance however.

"After a few tough years it has really given us hope Goodna is going to be around a lot longer," she said.

"The old boys and senior president were delighted.

"We're fairly loyal at Goodna."

While Hollands had jokingly said "four from four" when asked what would constitute a good day on Saturday, she was pleasantly surprised to see it come true.

"You go in with hopes high, fingers crossed," she said.

"But I couldn't have wished for a better outcome."

The result is likely to ensure further growth next year.

While it is a good thing, the problem is accommodating everyone.

Not on the books but on the playing surface of Woogaroo Field, where 19 teams have to share space.

Hollands does not know what, or if there is a solution, or if she will go around again as president.

"I haven't made up my mind," she said.

"It's been a tough year in terms of supporters.

"You feel guilty when you can't put the time in you need to.

"But I won't let the club down and if no-one else puts their hand up I probably will."

The work Hollands has put in has been reflected by the players, their coaches and other helpers.

"The players have shown passion, loyalty and were really committed this year," she said.

"They've trained hard and have had good support from family, coaches and the committee has worked hard."

Redbank Plains was the next most successful junior club with three grand final wins - in under 12a, under 13 minor and Open A.
