Good day for Titans' heavyweight

AT 102kg, you wouldn't expect Titans prop Brenton Lawrence to show any form of razzle dazzle.

But that was exactly what he did on the way to scoring a try he will never forget in his side's 36-18 win over the Panthers at Skilled Park.

Lawrence stormed onto a brilliant offload from Ben Ridge before showing great acceleration and footwork to leave Lachlan Coote and Luke Walsh in his wake.

The four-pointer gave his side an unassailable 30-0 lead after 51 minutes.

It was a gutsy performance from the hosts with Beau Champion (ankle), Matt Srama (shoulder) and Greg Bird (arm) all leaving the field injured, although Srama returned to help Luke O'Dwyer score in the 68th minute.

If having a prop wrong-footing him wasn't embarrassing enough, Coote made two errors which led to Titans' tries in the first half.

He threw a pass which was intercepted and led to a David Mead try before a botched pass was swooped on by Steve Michaels five minutes before halftime, giving the Titans an 18-0 lead.

When Gold Coast five-eighth Aidan Sezer scored his second of the afternoon, after slicing through the Panthers defence from eight metres out to give his side a 24-0 lead after 45 minutes, a cricket score looked likely.

But the Panthers fought back through tries to Arana Taumata, in his first game back a year after stealing a prescription pad from the club's doctor, while late four-pointers to Cameron Ciraldo and Ryan Simpkins added a degree of respectability.
