Get ready for a scorcher with mercury to top 38C

TEMPERATURES are set to soar this week with the Bureau of Meteorology predicting Ipswich will reach the high 30s.

The mercury is expected to hit 32C on Wednesday and keep on rising, peaking with a high a 37C on Friday and 38C on Saturday.

North-westerly winds will begin to pick up late Thursday, fuelling the hot and dry conditions.

The Bureau has forecast some relief from the heat on Sunday, with winds turning south-easterly and a maximum of 29 predicted.

The change will bring with it a chance of a shower in Ipswich.

Those susceptible to high temperatures have been advised to avoid the sun and drink plenty of fluids.

KEEP COOL

  • Drink plenty of fluids - cool water is best.
  • Stay indoors during hot weather.
  • Swimming pools and air-conditioned shopping centres can provide refuge.
  • Wear loose-fitting and sunscreen during the day.
