Get in now for early bird Rail Trail Fun Run tickets
REGISTRATIONS are now open for the 15th annual Somerset Rail Trail Fun Run, which is set to be the biggest yet, with a new 24km cycling leg added.
Somerset Regional Council Mayor Graeme Lehmann said families and competitors of all ages and fitness levels could look forward to a fun, active event which attracts thousands of competitors and supporters to the region.
"The walking/running and cycling courses are ideal for amateurs, professional athletes, and parents with strollers with breathtaking views of the Brisbane Valley, Brisbane River and historic rail trail,” he said.
The council consulted with Bicycle Queensland to devise an appropriate bicycle route through the newly-opened Wulkuraka to Fernvale section of the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail, which offers undisturbed native vegetation and bird life.
"Popularity of bicycle tourism is growing in our region and local business will benefit from the influx of visitors for this event,” Cr Lehmann said.
The 24km bicycle course starts at 8am from Wulkuraka - start point to be advised, while the 3km or 8km walk/run leg of the event will start at Lowood Primary State School Oval at 9am.
A post-race festival is also planned at Fernvale Sports Park with interactive stalls, activities and entertainment for families.
Early bird tickets are available until June 9.
During early bird release, tickets start from $15 each for under 16s to $30 for adults with packages available for families of up to five people.
