Get the fire safety message out to kids

THE Queensland Fire and Emergency Service wants parents to know it's never too early to start teaching children about fire risks and safety.

QFES spokesman Kevin Reading said while fire safety was crucial year-round, it was particularly important during the cooler months, with statistics showing more house fires occur during winter.

"The home is full of potentially dangerous situations and we cannot expect parents to eliminate them all; however what we are asking is that they encourage their children to gain a better understanding of recognising these hazards," Mr Reading said.

"It's all about fireproofing your fun."
