Gatton Pool opening delayed to at least October

GATTON swim patrons will have to wait patiently another couple of months before using the new aquatic centre at the Showgrounds.

Work started on the $11.9 million project in August 2013 with works expected to take 12 months.

However Lockyer Valley Mayor Steve Jones said works on the pool were running behind schedule but would be formally opened in October or November this year.

"We're probably a week or maybe a fortnight behind, no more than that," Cr Jones said.

"We haven't set a date for the opening but it will certainly be before Christmas.

Cr Jones said they were looking for an identity to formally open the pool.

"We'd like to get someone prominent for the opening, someone in the swimming arena, so we're working on that."

The new centre will include a 10-lane Olympic sized swimming pool, a kids' learn-to-swim pool, a clubhouse with kiosk and interior refurbishments to the sports centre.

The existing pool will remain open until the new one is up and running.
