Gatton marks its 100th show

THE Gatton Showgrounds will come alive to mark a historic milestone 100th Gatton Show this week.

For a century the show has been a guaranteed source of family entertainment, community spirit and agricultural pride.

This year will be no different, with a massive line-up of entertainment complementing a diverse display of sections showcasing the Lockyer Valley.

Along with marking 100 years, the Gatton Show will also notch up another milestone, with Keith Edwards walking on to the showgrounds for his 10th year as president of the show society.

Mr Edwards hoped this year's show would be a worthy tribute to all who had worked hard over the past century to make the show a success.

"I hope we get a show that highlights what we have on offer in 2016 and is basically a tribute to the 100 shows prior," Mr Edwards said.

"We are always trying to lift the bar for affordable family entertainment for patrons and this year will be extra special as we celebrate 100 years.

"We are extremely excited about what we have planned for this show and the entertainment on Saturday night will be unbelievable."

Saturday night's entertainment will start at 6pm with the official welcome from the mayor Tanya Milligan and show president Keith Edwards.

A guard of honour will be formed by the Outback Riders to pay tribute to the 100th show.

From there, the FMX Kaos riders will perform some stunts followed by the Globe of Death.

New to the entertainment schedule this year is the Roly Poly Cars.

Following this the sky will come alive with a fireworks extravaganza.

Capping off the 100th Gatton Show's entertainment will be the destruction soccer demolition derby.

The show will be held from Thursday, July 14 to Saturday, July 16.
