Gallant fight fails to wrest shield from Garden City

TOOWOOMBA has the Perrett Shield safely housed in their trophy cupboard for the next 12 months after a resounding win in the intercity encounter on Sunday.

The Ipswich players gave a gallant effort, but were unable to match the standard of the Toowoomba teams in most age groups.

Toowoomba won 56 rubbers to Ipswich's 48.

Ipswich's youngest groups fared the best, winning overall in the 11 and under and 13 and under years divisions.

Toowoomba were ahead in the other three groups.

Toowoomba are top hosts.

As a city, we will have to wait until next year to try and bring the coveted shield back down the range.

Semi surprises

SEMI-FINALS last Saturday produced some surprises.

It will be an all Tall Gums final in S1 when Lavers meet Andersons.

In S2, Tall Gums Fitzys meet the dark horses of the competition, TFP Death Adders.

IGS4 will take on Tall Gum Federers in the S3 final and Tall Gum Grafs will meet TFP Anacondas to decide the premiership winner of S4.

All finals will be played at George Alder Centre on Saturday, with trophy presentations to follow the completion of play.

The finalists in the junior sections were well dispersed among the clubs.

IGS have five teams represented, TFP have three teams, Ipswich Juniors have two, and Aspire. DTA, Springfield Lakes and Tall Gums have one team each.

Recorded results in the junior grades tended to be one-sided with the two closest matches being played between SL Midges and TFP Rattlers (26/20 in favour of SL).

In J7, TFP Pythons finished three games up against FD Sea Eagles.

Summer series

TEAMS for the summer season are being compiled for the grading meeting on Monday.

Nominations for positions have been called and forms are available.

Closing date for nominations is midnight on September 27. Nominate with secretary Sandra Baynes.
