Fun run is building on success

AFTER more than 1000 walkers and runners took part in the Somerset Rail Trail Fun Run last year organisers are hoping the eleventh event will go even better.

In 2003, when the event started, 175 people competed. Last year, more than 1000 people participated and it is now a popular fixture on the running calendar.

The family friendly event will start in Lowood on Sunday morning and competitors will make their way along the historic Brisbane Valley Rail Trail before reaching the finish line near the Fernvale Futures Complex.

Hundreds of people have already registered for the fun run and plenty more are expected to register this week through railtrailfunrun.com.au or on event day.

Entrants can participate in the 8.3km event or the 3km dash and fabulous prizes are on offer for competitors dressed in the best costumes.

Somerset Regional Council Mayor Graeme Lehmann encouraged everyone to come along and support the event.

For further information on the fun run or to register for the event visit railtrailfunrun.com.au or phone the Somerset Regional Council on 5424 4000.
