Fresh push to rescue people from Aleppo war zone

A NEW deal has reportedly been struck to complete the evacuation of fighters and civilians from rebel-held areas in east Aleppo.

The operation was halted on Friday after pro-government forces demanded wounded people also be evacuated from two rebel-besieged villages.

"It was agreed to resume evacuations from east Aleppo in parallel with the evacuation of (medical) cases from Kefraya and al-Foua and some cases from Zabadani and Madaya,” Reuters reported a Syrian Government source as saying.

There have been reports that pro-government militias detained hundreds of people trying to leave Aleppo on Friday and that some deaths resulted.

Before the evacuation was stopped, about 8000 people, including 3000 fighters, had left Aleppo in convoys of buses and ambulances.
