Force women regain belief in time for finals quest

THE Ipswich Force women are back at home on Saturday night, eager to win their Queensland Basketball League quarter-final showdown against Northside Wizards.

Having already secured a home final, the Force women wanted to win last weekend's game as a matter of pride and to build our confidence.

With all 12 players getting court time, it was a fantastic team effort that saw us win the match by 29 points over Sunshine Coast.

Saturday night's final is at 6pm at Cotton On Foundation Ipswich Basketball Stadium at Booval.

The last time the teams met, Force were the victors.

However Northside were missing their two US import players.

If the Force women come ready to play - with excitement and anticipation, belief and confidence and steely determination and tenacity - I believe we can get it done.

Fans wearing Pride t-shirts will receive free entry to the QBL game.

Let's get behind our Force women and create an amazing atmosphere where the opposition only see a crowd of green shirts supporting our team with enthusiasm, passion and Ipswich pride.

Gallant girls

AFTER finishing second on the ladder, the Ipswich Force SBL team managed to secure a home semi-final.

However, their title run ended with a 74-57 loss to Runaway Bay Seahawks in last weekend's tough battle.

Formerly known as the QBL Development League (D-League), the SBL (Southern Basketball League) provides high-level competition for young developing players looking to move into the state league.

It's also for players who have stepped down from elite competition.

Having only lost by eight in the regular season, Ipswich were hoping the semi-final would be their chance for retribution.

However, the Force were missing two key players in Meg Essex (national championships) and Peta Eddington (unavailable).

Ipswich only trailed 24-22 at the end of the first quarter. However, Ipswich's scoring dried up and Seahawks went on a run to take the lead 53-39 by the end of the third quarter.

A last ditch attempt to take back the lead in the fourth quarter saw the Force put away 18 points including a couple of long range shots, but they couldn't stop the Seahawks.

Quote of the week

I SAW this on the back of a t-shirt once and loved it.

It sums up the attitude the Force women have towards their upcoming quarter final.

Determination: a fixed purpose, the power and will to persist, resolve, to have the drive, to have the grit, to go the distance, to be hell-bent on reaching a goal and getting it done no matter what.
