LETTERS: Footy role model’s story inspirational
WHAT a fantastic story on Cam Smith's visit showing that our sporting heroes are making a difference to the way we view ourselves in society, and helping to change behaviours.
Cameron Smith is a gentleman of the game and he and the whole of the NRL are taking their role as leaders in society seriously.
Recently the NRL has taken a stand in support of marriage equality and many high profile players, including Greg Inglis, have made statements in support of their non-straight playing peers, supporters and other stakeholders in the game and broader community. This weekend, former league great Glenn Lazarus is in Ipswich to show his support for marriage equality, to help put an end to the cruel prejudices so many are suffering.
The contrast with our federal MP is stark and sobering. Shayne Neumann, our so-called representative, should follow the example of Cameron and Glenn and show some leadership.
Shayne needs to change his position, join the vast majority in Ipswich who support marriage equality, and help end prejudice in our community.
