Flyers building well for another SEQ finals campaign

HAVING shared in recent Super League success, Emilie McInally is getting into the finals spirit.

The Ipswich Flyers co-captain and sports buff has already enjoyed some winning feeling with the Ipswich Suns indoor netball team which won its grand final.

Now her focus is on the Flyers in the SEQ Challenge open women's division 1 competition.

"I love finals time,'' McInally said, having shared in a number of past Flyers' playoffs.

With three matches until the latest SEQ Challenge semi-finals, the Ipswich team is progressing well.

With seven wins and only two losses, the Flyers (14 points) have established a four-point break over third-placed SE Men's and Mixed.

Western Districts look to have top spot secured being on 18 points and unbeaten from their nine encounters.

However, McInally is eager for another shot at Wests before the finals and hopefully in the one v two playoff.

That match determines which team automatically advances to the grand final.

"We're peaking at the right time of the season,'' the experienced netballer said.

"We've got our combinations set. We're hitting our straps.''

McInally has been playing goal attack this season, feeding off former Brisbane Lions players like wing attack Nicole Grant.

"She's doing really well. She gets a lot of turnovers for us,'' McInally said of the skilful addition to this year's Flyers side.

The Flyers won their previous match 57-36 over South Coast.

"We never stop and once we got that lead, we just kept at it as well,'' she said.

Tomorrow night, the Flyers play Southport Carrara before the duel with Wests and a final preliminary game against Downey Park before the September 15 finals.

The Flyers under-16 team lost their latest game 57-49 to Downey Park after a one-point loss to Caboolture a week earlier.

The Ipswich under 16 side meets Underwood in their next encounter on Friday night.
