Flower sorry for grand final red card disgrace

DISGRACED Wigan prop Ben Flower will not be involved in February's World Club Series after his send off in the Super League grand final.

Flower became the first player to be red-carded in a grand final when he king hit St Helens, and former New Zealand Warriors, playmaker Lance Hohaia, and then punched him in the face as he lay on the ground just two minutes into the match at Old Trafford.

After St Helens went on to win 14-6, Flower issued a statement saying he was "so sorry".

He will face the tribunal tonight.

"It was something that happened in the heat of the moment, when our emotions and adrenaline were running high. I instantly regretted it and I'm devastated that I punched someone like that," the statement read.

St Helens will now play South Sydney in the main game at the expanded World Club Series in England. Wigan will take on the Broncos and Warrington will face St George-Illawarra.
