Five die in fiery crash overnight

FIVE people have died in a car crash at Coomera last night.

Shortly after midnight two cars were involved in a crash southbound on the Pacific Motorway at Coomera.  Initial investigations indicate one vehicle containing five people was stationary at the side of the road when a second vehicle containing one person crashed into it.  The first vehicle then caught fire.

Four occupants of the first vehicle, believed to be two men and two women all aged in their late teens to early 20s, died at the scene with the fifth occupant, a teenage boy, managing to escape the wreckage.

He has been taken to the Gold Coast Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

The driver and sole occupant of the second vehicle, a man in his late teens, died at the scene.

All are believed to be from suburbs in the Brisbane and Logan area.

The highway was closed for a number of hours but reopened around 7.30am.

The Coomera Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.
