Fireworks show ignites festival

THE start of the Ipswich Festival will go off with a bang tonight with a 10-minute fireworks extravaganza from 7pm.

The best vantage points will be at Riverlink and nearby David Trumpy Bridge.

Fire on the River marks the official start of the 12-day line-up of entertainment and events.

Ipswich Events Corporation chairman Paul Casos said many favourites would be incorporated into the show, including a stunning waterfall off the Bradfield Bridge and a breathtaking soundtrack.

Mr Casos reminded those planning to attend that the Bradfield Bridge and River Heart Parklands would be closed from noon today.

"This year we plan to really ignite everyone's senses with a showcase of the very best feature fireworks," Mr Casos said. "I encourage everyone to arrive early and not miss a minute."

Another major highlight will be the Ipswich Festival Parade on Saturday, May 5.

"The parade theme this year is Tales of Discarded Treasure," Mr Casos said.

"Also on the same weekend as the street parade are Carnival Capers and Top of Town Street Party."
