Fire haze across city

QUEENSLAND Fire and Emergency Service personnel were kept busy on Monday after a large grass fire broke out near Ripley.

Emergency services were alerted to the grass fire near Ripley Rd, Wensley Rd and the Centenary Highway earlier in the morning.

Firefighters spent a large part of the afternoon backburning in an attempt to contain the fire.

A large smoke haze blanketed larges part of the Ipswich CBD for the majority of the day.

Nearby residents were advised to close windows and doors and took keep medications close by if they suffered from a respiratory condition.

Motorists were also urged to drive with caution.

The Queensland Times understands the fire posed no threat to property.
