Fire crews battling large grass fire near Ripley
MULTIPLE Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) crews are on scene at a large grass fire burning near Fischer Road and Boyland Way, Ripley.
The blaze broke out around 1.20pm and firefighters are currently conducting back burning operations to strengthen containment lines.
As a result, a large smoke haze is expected to affect the surrounding areas throughout the afternoon.
Residents in the areas of Flinders View, Raceview, Blackstone and Ripley are advised to close windows and doors and keep medication on hand if suffering from a respiratory illness.
Motorists, particularly those travelling along the Cunningham Highway are reminded to drive to conditions and be mindful of emergency services personnel operating in the area.
If residents are concerned their property is under threat they are advised to call Triple Zero (000) immediately.
