Fiesta fun off to fine start

IPSWICH MP Rachel Nolan has welcomed the news the Global Fiesta 2011 will receive $10,000 of State Government funding to help stage the multicultural event.

Ms Nolan said the local event was one of 128 successful applications across the state under the $800,000 Multicultural Assistance Program 2010-11.

“Ipswich is rich in cultural diversity and I am a keen supporter of any event that strengthens our multicultural identity,” Ms Nolan said.

“The Global Fiesta 2011 is a wonderful event which embraces and promotes multiculturalism within Ipswich and I am extremely glad it has received a share in the funding.”

Ms Nolan said Global Fiesta 2011 was run by Ipswich Events Corporation as part of the Ipswich Festival and was always enjoyed by those attending.

“I am sure Global Fiesta 2011 will be a great event again this year and I look forward to attending the multicultural celebration,” she said.

Ms Nolan said the Multicultural Assistance Program was a key component to the government’s multicultural policy. For details, visit www.communities.qld.gov.au/multicultural.
