Feathered friends fly in for event
THREE significant community events secured financial support this week from Ipswich City Council.
The 2011 Ipswich City and Country Bird Spectacular, the 2011 Primer to Pristine Car Show, and the 2011 Westfalen Community Gardens Harvest Festival received funding to assist in the successful running of each event.
Economic Development and Sustainability committee chairperson mayor Paul Pisasale described the support as an investment of the community dollar.
"For every dollar we invest in supporting community events and organisations, the community gets it back 100-fold," Cr Pisasale said.
"Ipswich is the envy of many, because we understand the importance of supporting community groups and their volunteers.
"It is why we have such a tremendous feeling of well-being and a sense of belonging to caring community.
"I encourage residents and visitors to support these events where possible by attending," he said.
The Ipswich City and Country Bird Spectacular "Festival of Feathers" will be held at the Ipswich Showgrounds on June 12, the Ipswich Classic Car Club will present the Primer to Pristine Car Show at the Ipswich Turf Club on July 3 and Westfalen Community Gardens will host their Harvest Festival on September 11.
"Each year the Festival of Feathers attracts 250 exhibitors from as far away as south west Queensland, while the Primer to Pristine Car Show boasts up to 400 much-loved cars and the Harvest Festival promotes growing fresh food to help the family budget."
Cr Pisasale congratulated all three organisations on their positive contribution to the community and wished them every success.
