Driver dies after car leaves road and runs into tree

LATEST: A police Forensic Crash Unit is investigating why a car left a highway and slammed into tree, killing the driver.

The Moreton police district crash unit is looking into the crash on Monday night on the D'Aguilar Highway at Harlin, about 100km north west of Ipswich.

Police said the 52-year-old male driver and sole occupant was killed after his vehicle left the highway and hit a tree between 10pm and 11.15pm.

A police spokesman said the driver was from the South Burnett area and it was not known why he was on the road. Investigations are continuing.
