Road extension gets nod in study

IPSWICH City Council has finished a planning study to identify a preferred route for the extension of Bayley Road through to Pine Mountain Road at Pine Mountain.

City Works Committee chairman Trevor Nardi said Bayley Road functioned as the major street for the acreage living area of Pine Mountain.

“Its extension through to Pine Mountain Road will see residents no longer having to use the Warrego Highway to make local trips,” he said.

“Safety and accessibility for these residents will also be much-improved as they will no longer need to use the intersections along the Warrego Highway at Eleazar Drive and the western end of Bayley Road.

“As part of the planning for the Warrego Highway, the Department of Transport and Main Roads identified the Bayley Road extension as forming part of the transport network solution for the area.

“Council has allocated some funding towards the Bayley Road extension but it makes sense that it be included in the scope of works of the $70-million Warrego Highway/Brisbane Valley Highway Interchange Upgrade.”

Division 6 Councillor Cheryl Bromage said residents would welcome this upgrade. “These works are part of a local road solution that is a key aspect of a partnership plan that reflects a commitment to building a better relationship between all levels of government,” she said.
