'Explosive' Ella improving everywhere

ST Peters Western coach Stewart Melton said the current co-coaching arrangement with Heath Ramsay was unusual.

However, he agrees Ella is benefiting from the shared interest in helping her become a better swimmer.

"Heath and I have a really good relationship as well so we talk quite a bit and are able to work out the best training for her at the moment,'' Melton said.

"I respect Heath a lot. I've gotten to know him quite well over the last two and a half years.

"To his credit, he's a father but he's also a coach and he never kind of steps in and goes: 'why are you doing this or you should be doing that'.

"When I'm coaching, he lets me coach her. It's worked very well.''

St Peters junior squad head coach Melton welcomed Ella's full-time transition to his club in future months.

"She's definitely one of our more talented kids,'' he said.

"She's learning the benefit of hard work and she definitely looks like she has a bright future.''

Ella is a regular part of a 24-strong St Peters squad.

"She's kind of improving all over the shop at the moment,'' Melton said.

"Initially, she has got great explosive speed. She gets off the blocks really well and has lots of power there.

"But just recently, she's started to improve in the longer events as well (like the 400 individual medley).''

Ella recently qualified for the long course age nationals in Sydney next year.
