‘I’m sorry’: Dumped Fornaroli breaks his silence

Departed Melbourne City star Bruno Fornaroli has broken a three-month silence to declare that he 'gave his all' during his time at the club.

In a letter addressed to the "Melbourne City family", Fornaroli offered a contrasting version of events to Warren Joyce, who questioned the striker's "commitment and desire" amid their bitter split.

Fornaroli made a point of thanking fans, teammates and support staff and wished them well for the rest of the season in an emotional tribute in the wake of his contract termination.

Revealing that he remained silent out of respect to his teammates, Fornaroli vowed that he had always tried his best.

"Dear Melbourne City family, even though the end is not the way I wanted it to be, I can't express properly how thankful I am for the love you have given me in Melbourne,'' Fornaroli wrote.

"Many things have been said about me in the media in the last few months, and trust me, it was not always easy not to answer. However, I will only remember the beautiful moments I've lived in my time here.

"Even during the hard times I went through in the last season due to my injury, I always felt loved and supported by all the Melbourne City family.

"To come and play in the A-League was a difficult decision for me, but three years later I can say with pride that I am very happy of the road I took. I leave feeling that I have paid back the confidence placed in me by the club and the fans.

"Not for the goals or successes we could have achieved, but because I gave everything I had for the club each time I played or trained. I have nothing to blame myself for in that area.

"Every time I played for this team, I gave everything I had and never stopped training as hard as I could to meet the expectations placed (on) me. Never."

Fornaroli said that he will never forget the 2016 FFA Cup win.

"I hope the Melbourne City family have felt well represented by me both on and off the field. To have been the captain in the first title in City's history will forever be one of the biggest achievements in my career. To have shared it with you is one of my biggest joys,'' he said.

"Regardless of the fact that this is my job and profession, we, the players, would be nothing without the fans we play for, even when our roads split and we can not properly explain why.

"We would also be nothing without the support of a lot of people that work for the club, who make our job way easier and that do not get the recognition they deserve. To all of them, my most sincere gratitude."

The Uruguayan paid a warm tribute to teammates past and present.

"Last but not least, I'd like to thank each one of my teammates for these three and a half years. I am lucky enough to count many of them among my friends, and that's another one of the huge joys I take with me,'' Fornaroli said.

"It was for them, the fans and the club that I tried very hard to keep the unpleasant last few months away from the public eye. The most important thing for me was the team and although I was unfortunately unable to help on the field, I tried not to become an obstacle off it.

"I wish Melbourne City all the luck in the world for the remainder of the A-League season. I am sure my former teammates will give everything to take the club as high as possible.

"I am sorry for every missed goal, for every defeat or every broken dream, but I say goodbye knowing in my heart that I've given everything I had to give. My soul is full of beautiful memories of the club, the city and the fans and that makes me very happy."
