Everyone welcome at free Ipswich footy festival

THE WESTERN Corridor is fast becoming a footy-mad heartland, and Ipswich junior president Ben Thompson is inviting any and all youngsters to join the Eagles' Nest on Saturday.

The Ipswich Eagles and Cats, in conjunction with AFL Queensland and a handful of junior clubs in the Western Corridor, are bringing a festival of footy to Ipswich.

Junior clubs from Jindalee, Moggill, Fassifern, Collingwood Park and Park Ridge will join with the two Ipswich clubs to deliver a free footy experience for the Ipswich community.

Brisbane Lions mascot 'Roy' is the headline act - released from his AFL duties for the day to mingle with an expected crowd of 500-1000 participants.

Development officers from AFLQ will be on-hand to run pop-up Auskick clinics.

Skill games designed to teach kids the basics of Aussie rules will be supplemented by inflatable targets and courses.

Although the 2018 junior season is coming to a close, Thompson said any particularly keen kids would be able to take advantage of the Eagles' early bird sign-ons.

Parents can save themselves some dollars as well.

"We really just want to promote AFL in the Western Corridor and grow it as much as we can,” Thompson said.

"It's good (other clubs) have gotten on board. Everyone is welcome to come down and have a go.”
