Ethan stays positive he’ll find a position
WITH his experience in trade and multiple qualifications under his belt, 18-year-old Ethan Martin felt sure he would secure an apprenticeship soon after graduation.
It has now been eight pain-staking months since the young local left high school and despite endless job searching, Mr Martin hasn't secured the apprenticeship he hoped for.
"It's been pretty difficult finding something, especially locally which would be ideal for me," he said.
"I've handed resumes everywhere, not just in the field I'm hoping to get into.
"I've been looking for anything just to keep me going while I find an apprenticeship but there's been no opportunities so far."
Mr Martin (pictured) comes from a construction background and said he was hoping to get into plumbing or diesel fitting.
"You have to be really tight with your budget as a young person without a job," he said.
"I can't do a lot of things a lot of my friends can do.
"I did engineering at school and was the best in my grade in Year 12 so I've just been trying to get as much experience since then."
The ambitious teenager said he has worked here and there in labouring and construction to add to his resume but so far hasn't seen results.
"Getting a job would mean everything to me. An apprenticeship would put me on the right path for the next four years and would set me up for what I want to do in life."
