Emma Moffatt on the Glasgow podium with mixed team bronze

LEGENDARY thoroughbred Bernborough would have been proud of the Australian triathlon team which included Coffs Coast product Emma Moffatt after they won a bronze medal at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

The great horse known for his withering finishing burst would have been impressed by Ryan Bailie's stunning sprint finish into third position, making up for Moffatt's slow start in the first of four mini-events.

Emma Jackson and Aaron Royle shared in the spoils of the novel team race as Bailie swept past the Canadian team's runner with 200m to go, to claim a medal.

England took gold and South Africa the silver.

"We were happy to come away with bronze as fourth would have been a stab in the guts," Moffatt told the Channel TEN interviewers.

"I am very disappointed with how I raced and so I am lucky I had three superb athletes that followed me.

"So to be on the podium I definitely owe it to these three but I will make the most of it and be proud to be in this team."

The medal makes up for her disappointing seventh in the individual event on the Games' opening day.

Australian officials made an official complaint after the course commentator was accused of a bizarre series of sledges during the event.

He made numerous derogatory remarks about the Australian athletes, particularly Emma Jackson, and authorities are now considering if this played a part in the overall team performance.
