Eels give long-suffering fans a reason to be excited
THE NRL Auckland 9's have been played and won and I am happy to say for us long suffering supporters the winner was the mighty Parramatta Eels.
The tournament pitted all 16 NRL clubs together to show off some of their exciting youngsters, mixed in with some experienced veterans.
The event has gone from strength to strength. Being the first instalment of rugby league for the season, it is always well viewed.
While the forwards do their stuff up the middle, the excitement is always seen out wide where the speedsters of the tournament do their thing.
The final was fought out between Parramatta, who accounted for the Storm, and the Warriors, who defeated the Titans.
This was always going to be an entertaining final. Parramatta unveiled some exciting youngsters and the Warriors have players like Johnson and Tuivasa Sheck.
The Eels started on fire and were never headed, led brilliantly by Player of the Tournament Corey Norman. It was a well deserved 22-4 victory.
Other players to star and make the All Star team include Radradra, French, Johnson, Trbojevic, Lolohea, Harris, McQueen and Paasi.
Support the Jets
FOR football followers who are having withdrawal symptoms, this weekend signals the return with the Jets playing a local trial against the Burleigh Bears at the Goodna Football Field.
Games start at 2.30 for Colts, 4.15pm for BRL with the main game set down for 6pm.
The boys will be out to shake the cobwebs off and get their campaign for back-to-back Intrust titles on track.
With a host of players signing NRL contracts and moving on, it now gives the crop of new local talent the chance to move up and prove their skills are more then capable.
The game will also see ex-NRL veteran David Fa'alogo play his first game in Jets colours.
Who am I
I WAS born in 1962 in Ipswich and was educated at Bremer High School.
I rose to prominence in my chosen sport and represented Australia at the Commonwealth Games finishing in fourth.
I love most sports especially rugby league where I have managed my son's team over the years.
I also enjoy playing darts and slotomania. I had some ill health last year but my nurse (wife) got me back on my feet quickly.
I have worked at my current job for 21 years.
Last week's answer:
Baseball legend Paul Coogan.
Bomber's bouquet: Congratulations to the Brisbane Bandits on winning the Claxton Shield. Baseball doesn't receive the coverage that other mainstream sports get but the Bandits thoroughly deserve recognition for a superb effort.
Bomber's beef 1: The brainless Western Sydney Wanderers supporters who continue to break the rules. Flares are banned for a reason.
Bombers beef 2: It's time the NRL All Stars game is scrapped. The teams that take the field are nothing like the teams named. NRL clubs don't want their players playing.
Bomber's best: Sydney FC could only manage a draw last week so I am changing sports and can see the Aussies winning the First Test against the Kiwis.
