Taipans ready to strike
EASTERN Taipans' New Year's resolution is to start 2016 the way they finished 2015.
Powerful right-hander Brodie Kenyon belted six sixes in a season-high score of 80 as the Taipans smashed Swifts 144 runs in their last match.
The win was the Taipans' fifth in the Ipswich and West Moreton Cricket Association First Division this season and helped them finish the year equal on top of the one day ladder.
Feeling fresh after the Christmas break, Taipans skipper Jarid Greisbach said the team is preparing for a close one-day clash against Northsiders at Strollers Cricket Ground today.
"It will be tough and probably as close when the two teams played last time," the all-rounder said.
"We played them in a two-dayer and they beat us in the first innings, but we came back and beat them outright in the last over."
Greisbach said batting would again hold the key to the Taipans' fortunes.
"If we can bat through all our overs and have wickets in hand late in the innings then we have half-a-dozen players who can explode at the back end," he said.
Among the ones to watch out for is Kenyon, who produced his best performance of the summer to set up the Taipans' victory over Swifts.
"I promoted him to four and it's the best he's looked all summer," Greisbach said of the 27-year-old.
"He's always had the skills but hasn't been able to give 100% because of his soccer commitments.
"A knee injury means he's now concentrating on cricket and is coming on leaps and bounds.
"I'm expecting even bigger things from him this year."
In the Queensland grade competition, the Ipswich Logan Hornets firsts will hope the new year will bring about a change in fortunes as they take on Wynnum Manly in a two-day match starting today at Baxter Oval.
