Eagles eye upset
FEW other than the Eagles faithful are tipping Goodna to win tomorrow's Ipswich Rugby League grand final.
But that will mean little once the whistle signals the start of the A grade showdown at the North Ipswich Reserve.
Brothers' 2013 season contains just the one blemish - a 34-22 loss to Goodna in round three in April.
Since then everything has pointed towards Brothers claiming a sixth A-grade title in eight years.
Brothers haven't lost while Goodna have been inconsistent, struggling to put a full 80 minute performance together.
But no-one should write this match off as a fait accompli.
Brothers have not played in a fortnight while Goodna's three games (including a double overtime effort against Norths) in a week has got them as fit as they've been all season.
Brothers have also showed their vulnerabilities, most noticeably the past two occasions Swifts have tested them.
Brothers are motivated by last year's lack of success, failing to win a title across five senior grades. The Brethren will contest all three grand finals today.
It makes for a tense and entertaining conclusion to the 2013 season.
Who will win tomorrow's Ipswich Rugby League grand final at the North Ipswich Reserve?
Dale Lewis (West End captain)
Tip: Brothers. Why: I think Brothers will win. They're just superior and are used to the grand final experience. I think they'll be too fit and too classy.
Goodna have the forward power to run over them so if they can defend strongly they're in for a chance. But I think Brothers will be too good.
Lee Addison (Swifts coach)
Tip: Brothers. Why: All the pressure is on Brothers. It's their game to lose. I don't think Brothers are good under pressure and Goodna are the only team to have beaten them this year. Goodna are the biggest team in the comp and if they keep coming at you they'll make inroads. Brothers need their kicks to count so Goodna don't get a roll on.
Andrew Walker (Fassifern captain)
Tip: Brothers. Why: I did like Goodna and the way they played but I think they've had their run. I think Brothers might get them and do so convincingly. They'll get them around the rucks. Blake O'Loan (Brothers hooker) is a smart footballer who knows how to read players. If Brothers play up-tempo I don't think Goodna can match them.
Jarrod Biggs (Norths fullback)
Tip: Brothers. Why: Brothers have experience in the big games and across the field they've probably got Goodna covered for a bit of class. For Goodna to win they've got to defend well and frustrate Brothers.
