Drunk driver fined, disqualified

A MAN has lost his licence after giving a lift to a stranded friend after he had a few too many beers.

Ipswich Magistrates Court was told Jamie Richard Manning, 22, had been drinking beer with mates when a female friend called to say she was stranded at a pub and needed a lift home.

Manning got behind the wheel to pick her up, but was breathalysed about 1am and recorded 0.157.

He pleaded guilty to driving under the influence and was fined $800.

Manning’s licence was disqualified for six months and no conviction was recorded.

His defence lawyer said Manning, a forklift driver, rarely drank to excess and hoped to apply to the defence forces. She said he had no intention of driving that night.
