Drunk driver caught swerving

AN IPSWICH mum was found drunk behind the wheel when police pulled her over for swerving on the road.

At Ipswich Magistrates Court this week, Selena Veronica Bravo pleaded guilty to driving under the influence.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Brad Dick said the 46-year-old was stopped by police in Sadliers Crossing at 4.10am on October 3.

Sgt Dick said officers had observed Bravo "swerving all over the road" and crossing into the oncoming lane.

She was given a breath test and recorded a blood-alcohol reading of 0.193.

Bravo told police she had been drinking beer with a friend from about 8.30pm to 2am that day.

She said she could not recall exactly how many drinks she had.

A police check also revealed the registration for Bravo's vehicle had expired about a week earlier.

Defence lawyer Cameron Hodges said Bravo was a mother to a 14-year-old child and had no prior convictions for drink driving.

Mr Hodges said his client was a bar attendant and had been drinking after work before she got behind the wheel.

He said at the time of the offence, Bravo was experiencing personal difficulties and that his client was remorseful for her actions.

Bravo was convicted and ordered to complete 40 hours of community service.

She was also disqualified from driving for eight months.
