Drugged and drunk - police nab drivers on highway

FOUR people have been caught driving under the influence of drugs during a major police operation overnight.

Sunshine Coast Police and officers from the Road Policing Command also detected three drink drivers during operation Lima Agenor at Beerburrum.

During the operation 1097 breath tests and 46 drug tests were conducted on the Bruce Highway between 8pm and 1am this morning.

Police issued 17 people with notices to appear on 33 charges, including drug possession, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and driver licence offences.

Sunshine Coast Road Policing Unit officer in charge Shane Panoho said it was disappointing drivers were not considering the safety of other road users before they get behind the wheel.

"Every drink and drug-affected driver we get at an operation like this is one too many," Senior Sergeant Panoho said.

"Police can perform road safety enforcement anywhere, anytime.

"Before you get into your car, consider what affect your actions could have on yourself and other road users.

"We want the community to work together to reduce road trauma in Queensland."
