Driver forced to recline seat to escape chain-reaction crash

A MACKAY man has made a miraculous escape after a truck landed on top of his Triton ute on the Bruce Highway, south of Rockhampton.

Witnesses said the man, believed to be from the Northern Beaches area, managed to escape the carnage by reclining his seat before exiting the ute.

It is believed the crash occurred about 2.30pm on Wednesday when a truck sideswiped a stationary semi-trailer, causing a chain reaction resulting in three vehicles and two trucks being wrecked.

In the midst of the chaos, the truck ran over a late model Magna sedan carrying a man, his wife and their child.

Incredibly, the 22-year-old male occupant of the Magna was the only person injured, escaping from the crash with a fractured right arm.

He was treated in the Rockhampton Hospital.

After crushing the Magna, the heavy vehicle ran over the top of the Triton, where it came to a rest.
