Driver dies as car sinks in dam

POLICE are investigating the death of a man, believed to be in his late sixties, who died when his car drove into a dam on a property in Fordsdale, near Gatton, around 6.30pm this evening.

Initial reports indicate that the man attempted to make a U-turn on the property and for unknown reasons drove the vehicle into a dam.

A neighbour who saw the incident tried in vain to rescue the man.

As the vehicle is believed to be submerged in about four metres of water, attempts to retrieve the man’s body were unsuccessful.

The police dive squad will make further attempts at first light.

Police are investigating the incident.

Anyone with information that could assist police with their investigations should contact Crime Stoppers anonymously via 1800 333 000 or crimestoppers.com.au 24hrs a day.
