Draftsman builds on experience

THE world of construction is heavily process driven.

Within that context, drafting services are an integral part of the food chain in the industry.

Mark Jones, owner and director of The Drafting Room, has established an Ipswich-based business that is a cutting-edge concept.

Electrical reticulation drafting specialisation is a feature of the business, but it also carries out other typical services.

"I have over 20 years of experience in electrical reticulation, subdivision reticulation, switchboard schematics and switchboard fabrication drawings," Mr Jones said.

Now with about eight months in suite 8 in Ellenborough House, 126 Brisbane St, Ipswich, Mr Jones is settling the business in, with a view to more growth.

The significant residential growth is putting demands onto his business, which is just what he needs.

One such change is the Energex Design Automation Tool (DAT), in which Mr Jones is trained and is proficient with the system.

"This system will be the standard for Energex around Christmas this year," he said.

"If designs are done on a CAD system it will attract an additional cost."

The Drafting Room ptovides house plans, plans for renovations, structural steel work and is working closely with other organisations to ensure design standards for power reticulation within the myriad of new estates springing up around the area.

"We have, for example, an architect who we work with who can give advice on more complex housing designs," he said.

"If we feel that our client is better served by a specialist in the industry then we will refer them on."

The Drafting Room is open Monday to Friday from 7.30am to 4pm and can be contacted on 3812 1558 or 0407 646 377, or visit www.thedraftingroom.com.au.
