Do you want chippies with that?

THERE is a day for the police; there is a day for doctors and for the workers.

Just when you thought they had been forgotten, carpenters celebrated their own day for their crafty ways last week.

Apprenticeships Queensland made sure the chippies' day didn't go unnoticed, holding three barbecues across Ipswich to mark the occasion.

Marketing and recruitment officer Anita Dwyer said carpenters never needed an excuse for a barbecue.

Carpenters had the chance to prove they were the best in Australia through a national competition.

Last year more than 10,000 carpenters slapped a steak on a bread roll to celebrate the day in barbecues all across Australia.
