Disease test for police after alleged assaults

A WOMAN appeared in Ipswich Magistrates Court yesterday after allegedly assaulting police and watchhouse officers on Wednesday night.

Kylie Kessell, 26, of Camira has been charged with serious assault of police, serious assault of a public officer, assault and obstructing police and wilful damage of police property.

Prosecutors applied for a disease analysis test and the case was adjourned until today.

At around 6.30pm officers had attended a disturbance at a Redbank shopping centre before transporting a woman to Camira.

It will be alleged Kessell then assaulted an officer, punching the 44-year-old male in the shoulder.

She was arrested and taken to the Ipswich watchhouse where it will be alleged she spat blood on the same officer.

It will also be alleged she smeared blood on a 60-year-old female watchhouse officer's arms.

A part of a watchhouse door was also allegedly damaged by the woman.

The two officers did not require medical treatment.

Kessell will next appear in court today.
