Disabled man has case mentioned

A DISABLED man who allegedly attacked a young child in Springfield had his case mentioned in court on Monday.

The 24-year-old man, who is mentally ill and lives under 24-hour supervision, allegedly indecently assaulted the child during an escorted outing on March 30.

He has been charged with two counts of indecent treatment of a child under 12, deprivation of liberty, serious assault on police and common assault.

His lawyer asked for the case to be referred to the Mental Health Court and it will next be mentioned on July 16.
