Local celebrant to fund her own campaign for Division 5

ANOTHER familiar face in the public gallery at council meetings, Eve Sirigos, has announced she will run for Division 5 in the March 19 council elections.

The local marriage celebrant said she was proudly an Independent candidate and would be funding her own campaign.

Ms Sirigos said the council had to get the balance right with the amount of development throughout the city.

"We can't ignore what exists and the needs of our long-term residents and suburbs at the expense of new development," she said.

"Ipswich has to grow, as all great cities do, however everyone deserves to live in an environment of progress, not just the new development areas.

"As with any growing city there are issues that need to be addressed, and l am relying residents to keep me informed with the things that are important to them."

Ms Sirigos said one of her main concerns is jobs.

"Not just for our youth but for people of all ages. How many outside contractors are coming into Ipswich each and every day?

"I believe we should be starting a conversation about these contractors being able to employ some local people."
