‘Destructive’ winds cut power to Coast homes

Hundreds of homes in the Sunshine Coast hinterland were without power as severe storms continued to roll through the southeast.

An Energex spokesman said 388 homes in the Sunshine Coast Council area had their power cut, predominantly at Glass House Mountains on Sunday.

He said "destructive winds" and heavy rain had brought down 137 powerlines in the southeast, with more than 30,000 lightning strikes reported.

Ipswich, Redland City and Brisbane City are the main affected areas as storms are expected to continue well into the evening.
