Death of backpacker deemed 'non-suspicious'
INVESTIGATIONS into the sudden death of a man found lying in a paddock beside a busy Bundaberg road has been deemed as non-suspicious.
Bundaberg Criminal Investigation Branch officer in charge Detective Senior Sergeant Joe Hildred said an autopsy was performed on the 22-year-old French national's body at Rockhampton Hospital, this morning.
"As a result, the death has been deemed to be non-suspicious," Det Snr Sgt Hildred said.
"The deceased died from self-inflicted injuries."
The man's body was found with severe lacerations.
A woman came across the man's body shortly after 6am on Thursday, and police arrived soon after and cordoned off two crime scenes as part of their investigations.
The backpacker was fairly new to Bundaberg and had been travelling with four other friends, who were devastated to learn the fate of their companion.
Det Snr Sgt Hildred said the French Consulate had been notified of the traveller's death.
