Dead dolls, leopard prints and art inspire students

DOLLS of the dead, leopard print and abstract art may sound like an odd combination but not for the make up artist students at Kingscliff TAFE.

Seven talented women, under the close eye of renowned make-up artist Elisa Stefanovic Pointon , are working toward their Diploma of Beauty Therapy.

"They've only been studying for ten weeks," Mrs Stefanovic Pointon said when talking about the student's progress.

"They're very talented and a beautiful bunch of girls."

The proud teacher said the students absorbed everything she said and their ability was outstanding.

This assignment was aimed at the students bringing their own version of "Sugar Skulls" to the classroom, which is an artistic representation of skulls.

Mrs Stefanovic Pointon said the task showed students how to highlight and shade the face for special effects.

"It's a good lead into special effects including bruises," she said.

Make up artistry, according to Mrs Stefanovic Pointon, is a form or art where the body is the canvas.

Tonight the girls will be part of a fundraiser for cancer being held at Kingscliff TAFE restaurant Caldera.

There will be delicious cocktails, canapés, prizes, music and a fashion show.

Tickets are $17 at the door and everything kicks off from 6.30pm.

$10 from each ticket goes to breast cancer.
